Dr. Keith Tyler
Keith Tyler grew up in Lansford, North Dakota. Being from a farm family, he learned early on the importance of working hard and doing things the right way. He attended college at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and then moved to Orange County to attend the Southern California College of Optometry. While in Southern California, he served the student body as both the director of extracurricular activities as well as president of the student association. His final year of school included externships at the HuHu Kam hospital in Sacaton, AZ. This hospital serves a population with the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world. He then trained in Las Vegas, NV under two ophthalmologists who provide care for LASIK and glaucoma patients. Dr. Tyler then worked at the San Diego Naval Hospital, and finished up his school at the Eye Care Center at the school of optometry.

Dr. Tyler graduated in 2007, and chose to do an optional extra year of training as a resident at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. Only 10% of optometrists are selected to train as residents. At the school, he worked in ICO’s clinic, the Illinois Eye Institute, which is the largest provider of public aid eye care in the state of Illinois, having 90,000 patient encounters each year. After finishing his residency, he was asked to stay on at the college, where he became an assistant professor. He was also named the first Chief of the Urgent Care Services, coordinating a clinic that sees 4,000 eye care emergencies a year. During his time in Chicago, he went on to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and has presented 6 posters at different meetings since 2008. Dr. Tyler has also presented Continuing Education to other optometrists in Chicago, Las Vegas, and Milwaukee on topics from setting up an emergency room to neuro-ophthalmic and glaucoma conditions.

While in Chicago, Dr. Tyler and another doctor started a private practice from scratch, Marketplace Vision. This practice grew, and they were able to become team doctors for the University of Illinois Chicago sports teams.

While Dr. Tyler loved teaching and the city of Chicago, he always wanted to get closer to home, and moved to the Twin Cities in August of 2010 to start the Bloomington Eye Center. Having a broad background in caring for patients, he looks forward to establishing lifelong patients. His goal is to work with people to provide care not just for today, but for years into the future; care at the Bloomington Eye Center is aimed at providing you with the utmost in personal and quality care for your eyes, be it glasses, contacts, eyecare emergencies, or ocular disease.
